Summary of Independence of India

Independence day story


Mughal rule subsequently reduced till 1857. East India Company came in India for commerce purpose, but their intentions were something else.

Battle of Plassey and Buxar (1757-1764) 

Battle of Plassey and Buxar was conclusive victory of East India Company over nawab of Bengal and his French allies. After this britishers start ruling freely in India.


Britishers bought cartridge for soldiers which was made up of fat of cow and pig. That cartridge needed to be cut from mouth to fill in gun. This was against religion of soldiers. But they did not had courage to speak against britishers.

Sepoy Munity (1857)


On behalf of all the soldiers Mangal Pandey (one of the soldiers) came forward and played a key part in sepoy munity. But it was unsuccessful rebellion. And Mangal Pandey was sentenced to death.

Indian National Congress was founded 1885. That time young people of Bengal spoke against britishers.
So Lord Curzon decided to divide Bengal in 1905.
Binay-Badal-Dinesh from Bengal fought against them and sacrificed their life for India.
Consequently East India Company shifted capital of India from Bengal to Delhi. Meanwhile 1st world war took place in 1914-18. In 1915 Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi came from South Africa.


Rawlatt Act


To control protests in India the british judge Sydney Rowlatt passed law according to which police can arrest anyone they want without any case.

Jallianwalabagh Massacre (1919) 


Reginald Edward Harry Dyer fired rifles into crowd of unarmed Indian civilians who had gathered in Jallianwala bagh, Amritsar, Punjab in 13 april 1919. This incident left scar on every Indians. So congress decided to start Non-cooperation Movement. 

Chauri - Chaura Kand (1922)

Indians were angry with the Jallianwalabagh massacre. Some angry Indians fired up the police station situated in ChauriChaura. 

Kakori train Conspiracy (1925)


In 1925 Hindustan Republican Association planned to rob the train filled with britisher' s money at Kakori.

Slogan: Simon go back


British Government sent group of 7 british members of Parliament under chairmanship of Sir John Simon. This group did not had any Indian. So angry Indian welcomed this group with slogan 'Simon go back'. Leader of this protest was Lala Lajpat Rai. He was killed in lathicharge by police. Bhagat Singh took revenge of Lala's death. He and Batukeshwar Dutt lobbed bomb at central legislative assembly in Delhi to protest the implantation of defence of India act and then surrendered. He was hanged at the age of 24.


Civil disobedience movement


In 26 January 1930 Congress declared 'Independence Day'. After that in 1930 Gandhiji started march with 78 of his trusted volunteers known as Salt march. It was an act of Civil disobedience in colonial India. In second round table conference Gandhiji was called in london. After coming back from there he continued the civil disobedience movement. In 4th january 1932 Gandhiji was arrested without any court case. After returning from jail, he started Satyagrah movement in 1933. 

Subhash Chandra Bose became leader of younger radical wing of Indian National Congress. During world war II all congress leaders resigned from their post to go against british war policy. Bose escaped from british arrest and by changing his appearance he somehow reached to Japan where he made Azad hind fauz.

Quit India Movement (1942)

Gandhiji started Quit India Movement. So he was again arrested by britishers. This didn't stopped India from rebelling.

Md Ali Jinnah proposed idea dividing country. He wanted to make a muslim country which was governed by muslim only. This created violence between hindu and muslim.

Pakistan formation day


With consent of all, on 14th august Pakistan was created. 

After lot of struggle and sacrifices of great Indians, on the midnight of 15th august 1947, India got independence.
